Mountains and rural areas

Zia Erreka

  • 6 km
  • 1 h 30 min

Route around the rural environs of Bera. Starting from the Illekueta district, it passes through the Zia, Dornaku and Suspela districts and ends up back at the starting point. It can be easily done and practically the whole route is asphalted. The Bera, inguruneari begirada (Bera, a glance at its environs) guide is useful as a reference of what we can see in the area (available free-of-charge from the tourist office).

Zigorriaga

This is the eighth boundary of Bera. The views are impressive from this point: the coasts of Gipuzkoa and Lapurdi, and the mountains of Bortziriak. The route is an easy one. Starting from the Alto de Ibardin, we will pass by the Mandela dolmen.

Larun (PR- NA-16)

A route which follows the valley of the Zia river around the slopes of Mt. Larun without much gradient and easy to do. The ascent of Larun is of average difficulty. Starting from the Altzate district along the Ibardin road, we head towards the Eltzaurdia district (Napoleon's Route, former Roman road). We have the option of climbing up to the summit of Larun from the Landagaineta pass: splendid views of the coast of Euskal Herria. It is possible to descend from the Lizuniaga pass to the Garaitarreta district, and then on Altzate. The itinerary can be shortened by taking the route from the Zia district which goes to Landagaineta.

Labiaga, nature reserve

Labiaga, at a height of 700 metres, is an easily-accessible mountain, and Mt. Mandela affords excellent views of the coast. The nature reserve occupies an area of 1.3 hectares. There are carbonic slate deposits with plenty of pteridophyte fossils and plants. There used to be a small mine here.
